Partnering with Reusing IT to Tackle Digital Exclusion and Reduce Environmental Impact

Brightridge partners with Reuse IT to tackle digital exclusion and reduce environmental impact

At Brightridge Technology, social responsibility and environmental sustainability are integral to how we operate. As part of our commitment to being a responsible, carbon‑conscious organisation, we’re proud to announce our partnership with Reusing IT, a charity dedicated to ending digital poverty and reducing electronic waste through technology reuse.

Who Are Reusing IT?

Reusing IT is a registered Scottish charity whose vision is simple and powerful: no‑one should be excluded from education or opportunity due to a lack of technology. They work to combat digital exclusion by collecting end‑of‑life IT equipment from organisations and individuals, professionally refurbishing it, and redistributing it to people and communities who need it most.

Their work focuses primarily on education, but also supports social welfare and humanitarian initiatives across the UK and internationally, including projects in Africa and Ukraine.

How Reusing IT Makes a Difference

Digital exclusion remains a significant and often hidden issue. Many individuals and families lack access to a suitable device or reliable technology, creating barriers to education, employment, and essential services. At the same time, large volumes of perfectly usable IT equipment are routinely discarded as part of upgrade cycles.

Reusing IT addresses this challenge by:

  • Collecting donated laptops, PCs, and other devices from businesses and individuals
  • Securely data‑wiping, testing, and refurbishing equipment to professional standards
  • Donating refurbished devices to digitally excluded people, schools, charities, and community projects
  • Extending the usable life of technology and preventing unnecessary landfill waste

This approach simultaneously tackles digital poverty and environmental impact, ensuring technology is reused responsibly rather than discarded.

Supporting Inclusion Through Education

Education is at the heart of Reusing IT’s mission. By providing access to reliable technology, they help remove barriers that prevent people from learning, developing skills, and accessing life opportunities. Their work supports students, families, and communities who would otherwise struggle to participate fully in a digital‑first world.

Reusing IT’s philosophy is clear: information and access to technology should be a right, not a privilege. This belief closely aligns with our own values at Brightridge Technology.

Our Commitment to Carbon Reduction and Social Responsibility

Partnering with Reusing IT forms part of our wider commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices. By supporting technology reuse, we help reduce the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new devices, lower carbon emissions, and minimise electronic waste.

This partnership allows us to:

  • Support the circular economy by extending the life of IT equipment
  • Contribute directly to reducing digital exclusion
  • Align our environmental goals with meaningful social impact
  • Support a charity that combines sustainability with inclusion

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to support the important work Reusing IT does and to play a small part in helping bridge the digital divide while reducing environmental harm. This partnership reflects our belief that technology should be a force for good — supporting people, communities, and the planet.

As we continue our journey towards greater sustainability and social impact, partnerships like this are essential in turning commitment into action.
